Meet Rebecca

A Sleep Success Story

My name is Rebecca and I would like to be YOUR sleep specialist.

I believe that it is extremely difficult to truly understand what a sleep deprived parent is going through unless you have experienced it yourself. And I have been in that very situation. When my husband and I became new parents, we were enamored with our little baby boy and happily faced every challenge that he brought us. Even waking up many times a night did not faze us … in the beginning. After many months though, I began to realize that this was not a healthy way for any of us to go on; we were all over tired, I was stressed and my son did not deserve this constant battle with fatigue. As he moved out of the newborn stage, his sleep began to get worse and worse. Eventually, we were waking up 12 – 16 times during the night (and plagued by 30 minute naps)! I was doing everything I could think of to get my son to sleep well; including co-sleeping, rocking, nursing all night, and many other things just to get an hour or two of uninterrupted sleep. I KNEW that these “band aids” would not solve the problem – but I just could not figure out how to help him get good sleep.

With my husband out of the state on a 2 month business trip, I bought and read (in my sleep deprived state) any book that anyone recommended; but after reading books and searching parenting websites, I was actually feeling WORSE about the problem. Not only did the books and authors have conflicting viewpoints, but they all reported many theories and explanations without ANY application or instructions for how to help. I was almost ready to force my husband to leave work and come home (which would have seriously jeopardized his job), until I found Dana Obleman and her Sleep Sense™ Method. I was told that the method had step-by-step instruction on how to get my baby to sleep (the exact application that I was looking for) and decided to commit to it right away. And I am so glad that I did. My son showed immediate progress; and we were both getting better sleep starting from the very first night! My husband was in disbelief when he got home from his trip and our son was sleeping through the night in his own room. Finding and implementing this program has literally changed our lives! And I want to help you change your lives as well.

My Mission

I have always been passionate about helping children succeed. With a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Social Behavior, as well as a Master’s Degree in School Psychology, I have worked with countless children and families to help solve problems and cope with issues. I have learned and continue to advise that children of all ages need to be taught the skills that will help them succeed in all aspects of life. Children learn and thrive from their education, social experiences, family relations, and daily interactions. A well rested child has the best opportunity to learn from and participate in their environment; and a well rested parent has the greatest ability to provide their children with experiences to grow and succeed. This is why I want to help you and your family get the sleep that they deserve.

Helping build healthy, well-rested families is such a rewarding career experience. I am a Certified Sleep Sense ™ Consultant and have been personally trained by Dana Obleman, the creator of the Sleep Sense ™ Program, whose methods have been used worldwide by more than 30,000 families to quickly and easily solve their child’s sleep issues. I was amazed when Dana handpicked me to join her team and I am very happy to spend my days teaching people that sleep deprivation is neither a normal or necessary part of parenting. I look forward to hearing from you and sharing with you how I can help you work with your child toward a well rested and healthy outcome. The best way to decide if a private consultation is right for you is to call or email me to schedule your complimentary 15-minute evaluation. We can talk about the issues you are having, offer advice, and begin customizing a step-by-step plan to give your child their own sleep skills.

As a mother of two, I truly understand what sleep deprivation can do in just a short amount of time. Not only have I seen it in myself, but also my own husband and kids, other family, and close friends here in my community. Yes, my sleep consulting journey started with my own first born and our cluelessness around baby sleep. There were countless words of advice from friends and families, books read with such fatigue that the information didn’t sink in, and long nights spent searching the vast abyss of information on the internet.

Since that time, I have grown so much as a parent, partner, and professional. It is my passion to ensure that everyone I work with can succeed in tackling these challenges. I am able to develop the RIGHT solution for you; drawing on my psychology background, behavioral modification techniques, multiple certifications, and vast experience. I can ultimately guarantee sleep improvement with my consultation packages. Feel free to reach out and ask anything you need to know!

The Sleep Sense Philosophy

The Sleep Sense™ Method was created out of a strong belief that healthy sleep habits make for healthy children. A well-rested child is curious, energetic, happy, playful, and eager to learn.

When parents entrust me as their child’s “sleep guide,” they are placing a great deal of trust in me, and I want to let you know that I take this responsibility VERY seriously.

While most books and programs dealing with child sleep issues take philosophical stands (based largely around the issue of “crying it out”), I believe that your child’s sleep is more important than my personal views on this subject. That’s why the Sleep Sense Method places so much emphasis on accommodating different parenting styles. The bottom line is that you, as a parent, need to be comfortable with your new sleep plan in order for it to be successful for your child!

My approach to improving your child’s sleep is pretty simple:

  1. I’ll give you honest information about WHY sleep is so important for your child’s well-being. (This will give you all the motivation you need to make changes to your child’s sleep habits).
  2. I’ll lay out an easy-to-follow, step-by-step plan that lets you make some choices about what is the right approach for your child. (All children are different, and nobody knows your child better than you do. I encourage you to use your knowledge of your child to help me customize his or her sleep plan.)
  3. I’ll show you how to measure success. (No, you shouldn’t expect your child to sleep 12 uninterrupted hours on the first night – although it does happen! I’ll tell you what you should expect along the way … )

A little note about the “crying” questions: Since people always ask me about whether my solutions involve “crying it out,” I think it’s something that deserves to be addressed here.

Crying is your child’s way of protesting change, and you can expect that making changes to their sleep habits will result in some protest. That’s why I’m always sure to tell parents that my program will likely involve at least some amount of protest on the child’s part.

Please understand that I will never ask you to leave your child to cry alone, nor will I ask you to ignore their cries. The reason that the Sleep Sense Method is so effective is that it lets us develop a plan that you feel comfortable with, based on what you know about your child.

If you have any questions at all about the philosophy behind Sleep Sense Method, please don’t hesitate to ask me!
